Florian and Leo Win!On October 20th and 21st, we held our Houston Fall Go Tournament (photos) at St. Catherine's Montessori School (seen right). 18 attendees enjoyed 6 rounds of go over the two days though 7 rounds were originally planned. Unfortunately, the last round on Saturday had to be cancelled due to technical difficulties with the pairing program (it stopped working).The last round on Sunday was a spectacular "Blizzard Round" as pairings generated all 9 stone handicap games, the maximum allowed though ranking differences were much higher. This was due to the distribution of entering ranks that were clustered in three ranges. Everyone took it in good sport and we provided a special consolation prize to all the players taking black (none of whom won that round). So in the end it was perhaps a good thing we didn't try to run a seventh round. Our congratulations go to the tournament winners especially Florian Lee who came first in the Handicap Section and Leo Penny (age 11) who came first in the Youth Section. Noah Penny (age 9) took the youngest player award. We distributed a total prize purse of about $450. In order to provide the best possible schedule, we preregistered players for rapid preparation of pairings. We also provided a FREE Box Lunch both days for all those who pre-registered on-line.
